US Military Completes Withdrawal from Iraq After 23 Years

The United States has completed the withdrawal of its remaining troops from Iraq after 23 years. US military assets from bases at Baghdad airport and in Iraqi Kurdistan have been transferred to Jordan.

According to reports, a US military base in Jordan will now serve as the main centre for American operations against ISIS. The withdrawal is part of an agreement reached in 2024 during the administration of former US President Joe Biden.

The report said more than 4,500 US military personnel were killed during the 23-year American military presence in Iraq. Iraqi resistance groups have described the US withdrawal as a victory.

Following the withdrawal of US forces, there are also expectations that Iranian influence in Iraq could increase.
