Lahore Becomes World’s Most Polluted City, Citizens Advised to Take Precautions

Lahore has once again topped the list of the world’s most polluted cities as air pollution continues to rise in the city. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Lahore was recorded at 194, indicating unhealthy air quality and raising concerns about the health of citizens.
Air pollution levels were also high in different areas of the city. The AQI was recorded at 210 in Allama Iqbal Town, 207 on Barki Road, 187 in Model Town and Bedian Road, and 186 in Defence.
According to air quality monitoring reports, pollution levels in Lahore have increased during the current week. The city’s air quality is far above recommended health guidelines, making it important for residents to take precautions, especially when spending time outdoors.
Medical experts have advised citizens to keep doors and windows closed to reduce the amount of polluted air entering their homes. Motorcyclists and people who have to remain outdoors for longer periods have also been advised to wear masks for protection.
Smog is a form of air pollution caused by a combination of smoke, gases and fog. It can contain harmful pollutants released from vehicles, factories and other sources. Heavy traffic, industrial emissions, high temperatures, sunlight and slow-moving air can contribute to the formation and buildup of smog.
Exposure to polluted air can cause several health problems, including eye irritation, coughing, sore throat and breathing difficulties. Prolonged exposure to high levels of air pollution can also increase the risk of respiratory diseases and other serious health problems.
Children, elderly people and those who already have breathing-related problems can be more vulnerable to the effects of smog. Experts have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during periods of heavy pollution and take appropriate precautions when going outside.
