Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye Defense Pact Not a Threat to Iran: Iranian Foreign Ministry
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei says Tehran has no objection to the Mecca Agreement and does not plan to impose fees on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has said that the defense agreement between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye does not pose a threat to Iran, emphasizing that Tehran maintains historic relations with all three countries.
Speaking during a press briefing, Baghaei said Iran had no objection to the Mecca Agreement and described it as a significant development that could reduce American influence in the region.
He stressed that regional countries should strengthen their security without relying on external powers. According to Baghaei, countries in the region have realized that security cannot simply be purchased with money.
Baghaei also urged Gulf countries not to allow their territories to be used against Iran. He said there are currently no direct negotiations between Iran and the United States, although messages continue to be exchanged through intermediaries.
Iran, Oman Discuss Strait of Hormuz
The Iranian spokesperson said that Iran and Oman have reached an understanding regarding the navigation route map for the Strait of Hormuz.
He added that Tehran and Muscat are still discussing some technical matters, including issues related to removing sea mines from the waterway. Baghaei described the ongoing discussions with Oman as positive.
Baghaei further clarified that Iran does not intend to impose fees on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
He warned that continued U.S. naval blockade operations could prevent the waterway from becoming fully secure, while adding that the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened if no third party intervenes.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes, making developments surrounding its security closely watched by regional and international powers.
