Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has intensified its crackdown against objectionable and illegal online content, blocking more than 1.54 million URLs over the past ten years as part of its digital enforcement efforts.

According to the PTA spokesperson, the authority has achieved a 90 percent enforcement rate against objectionable content. The report states that over 1.065 million URLs containing immoral or inappropriate material were blocked during the review period.

The crackdown also targeted major social media platforms, including Facebook, TikTok, X, YouTube, WhatsApp and Instagram, where thousands of links containing unlawful content were restricted. The PTA further reported blocking content related to terrorism, national security, religious hate speech and sectarianism.

In addition, the authority processed more than 1.7 million public complaints over the past decade, while thousands of cases remain under review. The PTA says it will continue taking action to ensure a safer and more responsible digital environment in Pakistan.
